The Storied Lives: Shifting Perspectives on Poverty four (4) podcast series encourages members of the public to learn more about the causes of poverty. For adults. Please register.

The Storied Lives: Shifting Perspectives on Poverty podcast series was created through a joint research project by the Guelph and Wellington Task Force for Poverty Elimination and the University of Guelphs' Community Engaged Scholarship Institute and Live Work Well Research Centre.

The project encourages members of the public to learn more about the causes of poverty by amplifying the voices of those experiencing poverty.

Each of the 4 episodes pairs one composite story (a fictional narrative based on real experiences) and one interview with a notable guest who contributes additional perspective grounded in their own work, research and advocacy.

You’re invited to join the project team for one or more of the below group listening sessions. Each session will feature a different episode of the podcast.

  • Wednesday, November 22, 2 to 4 p.m. --> Episode 1: Saving Grace. This episode explores themes of rural poverty, mental health and physical disability. It includes an interview with Elsa Mann, Team Leader - Rural Wellington Community Team at Mount Forest Family Health Team.

  • Wednesday, November 22, 6 to 8 p.m. --> Episode 2: Quota. This episode explores themes of poverty, racism and xenophobia. It includes an interview with Jasmine Ramze Rezaee, Director of Advocacy & Communications at YWCA Toronto.

  • Wednesday, November 29, 2 to 4 p.m. --> Episode 3: Old Enough to Hit. This episode explores themes of poverty, family and sexual violence, intimate partner violence and harassment. It includes an interview with Lieran Docherty, former Director of Programs at Women Abuse Council of Ontario.

  • Wednesday, November 29, 6 to 8 p.m. --> Episode 4: Paying Customers Only. This episode explores themes of poverty, addiction, substance use, mental health, racism, policing and physical violence. It includes an interview with Dr. Akwatu Khenti, Assistant Professor at University of Toronto's Dalla Lana School of Public Health.
