You, Your Child and their IEP
Our three presenters have a combined total of over 75 years in education. Their classroom, principal and superintendent experience offer session participants with a unique window into the world of IEP's. Each of the presenters are also parents; parents who understand the joys and sadness, the pride and guilt along with the exhilaration and frustrations of parenting.
Based on their experiences of working in school systems in Guelph, Saskatchewan, British Columbia and Internationally, Chad Guyitt, Leslie Newman and Cheryl VanOoteghem's goal is to provide parents/guardians/caregivers with a practical, hands-on approach to the workings of your child's IEP.
They have designed three interactive sessions on IEPs with caregivers in mind. These presentations are focused on students with special education needs and emphasize the importance of collaboration and understanding between home and school.
It is the presenters' hope that all participants leave each session feeling empowered to support their child's special learning needs.
Connecting the Dots (February 28, 2023)
In the second of this three part series, caregivers will be provided with information about how their child's IEP related to their daily school work and report card. Stigmas sometimes associated with IEPs will be explored and legal requirements of the IEP will be discussed.
Final Session: Year End and Next Steps (April 2023)
In this final session, caregivers will learn about the IPRC process, transition planning, and thinking ahead to the next school year and the updated IEP. When and how to talk with your child about their IEP will be highlighted, as will your responsibilities as a caregiver.
In each of these two-hour sessions, an hour will be devoted to participant questions.
