Join us at the University of Guelph McLaughlin Library to explore the Culinary Milestones of the University of Guelph Culinary Cookbook Collection.
The University of Guelph’s Library is home to a collection of nearly 20,000 historic cookbooks and archival materials relating to food history. Dating back to the 16th century, the collection is housed in Archival & Special Collections in McLaughlin Library. A rich resource for students at the University, the Guelph community, and researchers from around the world, this collection is one of the largest cookbook collections in North America
Melissa McAfee, special collections librarian at the University of Guelph will give a talk on the collection and how the materials in it are used as manuals for not only cooking but also as primary resources for conducting historical research. After her talk, attendees will have the opportunity to examine selected rare cookbooks from the sixteenth through twentieth centuries. In addition, an exhibition on Canadian cookbooks, “Cooking up History: 30 Years of the Culinary Historians of Canada” will be available to view.
